Easyread System
Five months ago our 8 year old could name about five letters of the alphabet but struggled to match them with a sound. Now, after Easyread, he can match the sounds of the vast majority of letters of the alphabet, even without the easyread character - a remarkable feat. And he can now read by sounding out words. He's still got a long way to go but his progress has ignited in him a hope and a sense of accomplishment he had lost. We had tried a number of phonics and sight reading programs before easyread. But the way in which the easyread lessons are structured, the help that is provided, and the easyread program itself has proved a successful combination where others have failed. For a highly visual learner, it was the program we had been searching for.

Math-U-See
The Math-U-See program has been great for our two highly visual learners, now 8 and 10 years old. The use of the coloured blocks which go up to 100 provide an excellent visual as well as tactile representation of the maths problems. What I particularly like about this system is that they use the blocks right up to algebra. And the lessons don't stick to the usual progression of simple problems to hard, instead starting the kids on basic algebra even when they are learning simple addition. Maths is no longer this disconnected rote learning of number manipulation. They can see the visual image of their calculations as they go.
