West Virginia Guidelines for Participation in State Assessments

West Virginia uses multiple state assessments to measure student achievement and inform program improvement. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA 2004) requires participation of students with disabilities in statewide assessments to be consistent with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). The West Virginia Department of Education has crafted this document titled West Virginia Guidelines for Participation in State Assessments to 1) provide guidance to IEP teams to appropriately accommodate students in statewide assessments and 2) assist teachers and schools to work within the framework of federal law and policy.
